The starting point

  • Scanned supplier casting invoices checked by hand: order numbers, weights, and rates typed into sheets, with real money lost to unnoticed weight discrepancies.
  • Product listing was combinatorial pain: one ring design means dozens of Shopify variants across metals, stones, and sizes, each with its own weight, cost, and margin math.
  • Internal processes (returns, shipping, casting) lived in tribal knowledge.

A pipeline that reads scanned paper better than a tired human, and checks the market price of gold while it’s at it.

What got built

Invoice OCR pipeline

Scanned PDFs go through Google Cloud Vision OCR, get parsed into orders/weights/rates, flag any weight discrepancy over 0.03 DWT, cross-check billed metal rates against live gold/platinum spot-price APIs, update the company’s sheets, and email a report. A human decision only happens where a discrepancy is found.

Internal platform of mini-apps

One login, modular apps gated per user: casting received, returns processing, items shipped, sales-tax handling. Roughly 25k lines of code and 14 service modules, on the same Supabase-backed architecture as everything else I build.

CSV→Shopify variant generator

Rule books for natural, lab-grown, and no-stone lines expand a single style row into complete Shopify parent/child CSVs: carat weights, gram weights per metal, cost, labor, markup, and margin computed per variant.
